Robotic Surgery

Several surgical procedures that can be done laparoscopically can also be done with the aid of the da Vinci Surgical System. These surgeries are still laparoscopic with small incisions but the robotic platform offers a few additional advantages.

In general surgery the robotic platform can be used for a variety of procedures including:

  • Bariatric (weight loss) surgery
  • Hernia surgery (inguinal and abdominal wall)
  • Anti-reflux Surgery
  • Colon resection
  • Single incision surgery such as cholecystectomy
  • Same as a laparoscopic cholecystectomy but with only one small incision typically hidden in the umbilicus rather than the usual 3 or 4 small incisions thus offering a cosmetic advantage)

With the da Vinci Surgical System, surgeons operate through a few small incisions while working at magnified 3D high-definition vision system at a consure. Surgeons use tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate even more than the human hand and a lot more than typical laparoscopic equipment . Therefore more can be accomplished compared to traditional laparoscopic surgery. As a result, the robotic platform allows the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, and control

Your surgeon is 100% in control of the surgery. The robot simply translates the surgeon’s hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of the surgical instruments in your body.

If you are interested in the robotic platform please mention it at your appointment!
